To me, this seems like a perfect combo for those of use who do not afford or need a 1 series camera. I would like to pick up a 5D for portraits and use my 40D for wildlife. Just a thought from Daniel

I had the 5D/40D combo and it's awesome. But for me, I never used the 40D, so I sold it to a friend. If you're going to be doing wildlife, that would be an awesome combo for you Name is Peter and here is my gear:

I have a feeling that I would probably lean more towards the 5D over time for most of my uses, but it would be great to have the 40D for sports and wildlife. I think the 5D would be great for street photography. For now I'll continue building my lens lineup. I figure that by the time I have my lenses bought, a used 5D will cost next to nothing. No, you can't tweak it in camera. You can tweak it afterwards. If you are shooting jpeg you get a limited amount of tweaking but if you are close it should do OK. For critical work, shooting in RAW is much better, because you apply white balance after the shoot. Tony

I should know, I got a useless English degree with an even more useless Philosophy minor! Placement record at UofT is pretty damn good actually. The PhD isn't like the undergraduate degree, it sets you right up for an academic position. You should be calling me Professor Ge in a few years. Plus I already have a pretty great job Perry | www.perryge.com

I'm halfway through a basic photography and darkroom class and convinced my wife to let me buy a DSLR when I finish. Anyway, I was debating about an used 5D or a 50D then my friend handed me his 5D paired with a Canon 50mm f1.4 while my wife did make-up for his wife. Lots-o-mucous! I'm a total photography bOOb, er, nOOb, but I think I'll pic up a 5D for my first DSLR. -Daniel
