I posted these images in the "People" forum... Lots of views but no C&C's... Since I used my 5D on these two images, it's referencial to this thread ;)

Anyhoo, any C&C's would be greatly appreciated with the images below...

#1 - 5D + 85L combo...

#2 - 5D + 135L combo...

Thanks in advance...

Just out of curiosity....How many people pair the 5D up with a XXD line camera. To me, this seems like a perfect combo for those of use who do not afford or need a 1 series camera. I would like to pick up a 5D for portraits and use my 40D for wildlife.

Butch, her face looks a little OOF to me on the first shot.

Great shots. She is a beautiful model and I really like the pose. I'm not totally crazy about the dead space on the right side of the images, but her pose is awesome.

I had the 5D/40D combo and it's awesome. But for me, I never used the 40D, so I sold it to a friend. If you're going to be doing wildlife, that would be an awesome combo for you

Thanks for the reply. I have a feeling that I would probably lean more towards the 5D over time for most of my uses, but it would be great to have the 40D for sports and wildlife. I think the 5D would be great for street photography. For now I'll continue building my lens lineup. I figure that by the time I have my lenses bought, a used 5D will cost next to nothing.

hey i have a question about the custom white balance on the 5d. can you tweak the customed version of your white balance after you've taken the shot? i know there's a chart in your camera menu, but i'm not sure if it affects your custom white balance. any advice on that?

No, you can't tweak it in camera. You can tweak it afterwards. If you are shooting jpeg you get a limited amount of tweaking but if you are close it should do OK. For critical work, shooting in RAW is much better, because you apply white balance after the shoot.

I hated that lens so much during the short time I owned it .

Yeah, it's a frustrating lens if you are going into birding! Of course it makes you want to upgrade all the sooner:)!

Using it wide open at 300mm gave quality about like putting a 2x TC on a lens like the 300 f/2.8 -- it made you kinda sad when you were hoping for tack sharp images. And for outdoor shooting there was often no other way to use it!

Congrats! You will never have a job! I should know, I got a useless English degree with an even more useless Philosophy minor!

Placement record at UofT is pretty damn good actually. The PhD isn't like the undergraduate degree, it sets you right up for an academic position. You should be calling me Professor Ge in a few years. Plus I already have a pretty great job .

Ok, I've been lurking in this thread for a while. I don't have a 5D... yet. I'm halfway through a basic photography and darkroom class and convinced my wife to let me buy a DSLR when I finish. Anyway, I was debating about an used 5D or a 50D then my friend handed me his 5D paired with a Canon 50mm f1.4 while my wife did make-up for his wife.

I'm a total photography bOOb, er, nOOb, but I think I'll pic up a 5D for my first DSLR.
