Some may remember I bought my son (twelve years old) a pair of Skymaster 15 X 70 binoculars for Christmas. We have really been enjoying them. Last night we found the Comet Lulin. We first found Saturn, the yellow non-twinkling light in the south south-eastern sky. Then, through the binoculars, we were able to see a little green light below and to the right of Saturn. Talk about being excited! Just thought I would let you know.

Great to hear you're enjoying those 15 x 70s. Great value and great views.

Congrats on finding and viewing the comet. Did you tripod mount your binos?

We do mount the binoculars on the tripod pretty much every time we use them. Neither of us can hand-hold them steady enough to make out anything (maybe we are wimps). Once they are mounted and we find what we want to see, the view is great.

I don't hand hold mine at night unless I have something to prop my elbows against like a car or something solid. It's really nice viewing with both eyes.

Too bad for me, looking towards the south is looking right towards downtown Austin. I could barely see it with my night vision binocs Saturday at 5:00am.

That's the best way to do it. You'll stay on a target longer and notice things that you don't see initially.

Now you're hooked, hold on to your wallet!

I'm a bit behind...is the comet still visible? Last night was the first good clear night for me in weeks, and I was out with my bins hunting for Lulin, but couldn't see it.

We did not try last night (2/26) because it was too cloudy and we went out to eat, but I think it is going to be visible for the next few days. If it is clear we will look for it again tonight. It is cool to see it.
