When I put my 4gb card into my XTi, the camera says that there is a problem with the card and to re-insert it. Then I get the same message. Is there any saving the card or do I toss it? There's nothing on it so I'm ok from that viewpoint. Thanks

Awwww, I saw the title and thought it was a story about a drug addicted CF card that held you up at gun point or something. sigh...

Anyway, all kidding aside. You can try to reformat it in your computer then reformat in camera and see if that revives it. Works like a charm most of the time.

Yep-- try removing stuff when it is tied to the computer. (for what it is worth I use a card reader to download cards to computer)

Duncan-- how do you reformat it in the computer?

hpeeler,
Welcome to POTN forum :)

I suggest you try to access the files on your card with an external CF reader. If you can access it on the computer then save your files and then try to reformat the card in the camera.

Pop it in the reader -----> right click ------> Format

Most people do. But if you want to 'clean' your card or give it a swift kick in the rear, formatting in computer first then camera is the only way. I do it as a matter of course when rotating cards.

thats what i do too.

I bought one of these http://www.xpcgear.com/pq120x8gb.html (external link) at my local Frys Electronics for 10$ and it didnt work in my camera. Same error message. I had to format it via computer because there was a windows 98 OS inside of it
