I went down to my local shop last sunday and just asked for one. The guy said "man that is an expensive battery" when he gave it to me I told him I also needed a camera body to go with it. His eyes went:shock:

Why didn't you post here to tell us you found a battery, Quad? :(

I wonder how much the taxes are for the $119.99 battery? That is so much money!

So there you have the answer as to why I didn't post the location at first. It was a lot even with my discount which got it to the US price, but the little bits of paper will not run my camera so there you go.

As a side note what is really expensive is this:

Its like they have totally lost it.

I have mine at Adorama backordered for 4 weeks now. It's awful!

It took nearly a month for Canoga to ship mine. It will be here Friday.

canon wants to be cool like nintendo and create artificial demand for their products.. too bad they don't realize that all that does is piss people off...

That's a load of crap... do you actually think Canon is trying to be slow on shipping the battery? Or even the camera?

Canon like almost all other companies are looking to make money anyway possible... if they could ship the camera's and/or batteries out faster they would.

There is a massive difference between a $250 game console and a $2700 camera, one is going to move millions of units, but the 5D and it's newer brother only move a pretty small number of units.

If Canon really did what to slow deployment to increase buzz and demand they would have done it on the Rebel XSi which move tons more units than the 5DMkII which only moves a tiny fraction of of the volume. Believe it or not camera nerds represent only a tiny fraction of those who actually buy camera's... so while folks on POTN pine over the 5DMkII most people looking to buy a new DigitalSLR don't even have that camera on their radar.

Personally I was able to get other batteries for my 5DMII, I picked up one from Adorama when I ordered my camera and another from Abe's of Maine. Both extra batteries were back ordered and took a while to come in, your best bet is to get on the waiting list at a major retailer such as Adorama, B&H, Samy's, etc. where they are more likely to get larger and more frequent shippments.

When Canon CPS was cleaning my gear last week I was chatting with them about the battery shortage, and they openly admit that they have no idea what's taking them so long to get them over there and that it's the hardest Canon part to source at the moment.

One thing I'd tell folks who are worried about having an event and not having enough batteries... If you have the grip you have the AA battery frame that goes in places of the batteries, throw eight NiMiH AA batteries and your going to have plenty of extra power should you exhaust the Li battery the MkII comes with... that said the new battery lasts a freaking long time if your just doing photos, I would think you could likely almost get through a wedding/event with just a single battery, making the AA battery backup totally workable in the short term.

Thanks. I just ordered one. I hope it comes. :) I actually have had my 5D2 for 4 weeks and haven't needed to recharge the battery yet and have taken about 600 images. I'm impressed. But I'll need it when I start shooting in the cold weather. Battery drain is always an issue.

A canon rep actually told me that. I work in the industry so I get to talk to and meet tons of reps from all manufacturers. Even the rep agreed that the 5D II demand and supply is stunted in north america. He had no idea why there are stock issues with the camera and its accessories, when he asked his superiors they couldn't give him an answer. You can agree or disagree with me but I do believe with the 5D II epidemic Canon did create a higher then normal demand for the item. Those who are determined to buy the 5D II most likely won't change their mind because it is not in stock, its not a dollar store item. Its been a few months now since the 5D II has been released and even now in some parts of the world the camera and its accessories are still in demand, with no supply. When the D700 came out Nikon and Canon shooters went all over it, tons of them sold, but stock was replenished pretty quickly.

BTW my battery finally shipped. Its been almost 3 weeks since I've ordered it. I sent a complaint in to the store I ordered it from and I was replied with a shipping confirmation. Sometimes you need to yell to get what you want =D.
