So i have a few questions that hopefully you guys can help with. Everyones been soo helpful on this site i love it.
I am a young upcoming photographer and have found motorsports to be my favorite, and i want to start even making some money from it. I have been going to dragboat races since i was 8 and started taking pictures when i was around 14 (im 19 now). I believe, based on my own research and others advice, that i have reached a point with my dragboat photography that i could make a little money from it and get my work published. I had a team recently want to use my picture for a poster, but they ran upon hard times and the deal fell through (you can see a few of my pictures on the website in my signature. They are all older and taken with a rebel, i have vastly improved my gear since my last dragboat race.) I believe i am ready and want to start out in the "real world of photography"
I've looked around and based on what other pictures i've seen published online, in magazines, and in newspapers, i think i could match those results and even better them. The problem is i dont have any idea of what the process is like to make this a reality. I need someone to walk me through the steps of contacting various companies and how that whole process works. In the meantime I have a few (maybe alot!) of questions.
How do i go about contacting publications? (email, letter? what do say)
Which publications could be interested in my work?
What are the different contracts or agreements that might be presented?
Can you work for more than one place and give them the same pictures?
Who owns the copyrights of the pictures after an event?
How are the pictures submitted?
Im sure i will think of other questions, so this is just for starters. I hope i havent come off cocky or anything
I am mainly looking to do this to start building a portfolio of published work, money is not a real concern to me as i am still in college. I want to do it to improve myself, and start being noticed. Thank you to anyone who has read this, i know it's alot! I am just full of questions, drive, and determination right now i would apreciate it GREATLY to anyone who can help.
Thanks and God Bless, Kyle
