This has been buzzing on other forums....Nikon is introducing two new D series camera, the D50 and the D70s. Someone posted the leaked instruction manual for the D50 here:

Looks like they are taking some cues from Canon. ;)

The sooner Nikon brings out cameras better than the current Canon crop, the sooner Canon will raise the bar again.

Everybody wins, except my wallet.

It says in the specifications (p139) that the sensor is 6.1 MP (???)

I would've expected something at least 8MP....

(or somebody is playing a joke on the N***ans...)

Yes, yes we are. I just thought it was neat to see Nikon trying to compete with Canon. Nikonians are going abuzz with this leak. We are all yawning, it seems. :)

Apparently this is real - DPREVIEW has an article on it, so apparently does Rob Galbraith, and another one from MACWorld.

http://www.dpreview.com …/05033105nikond50real.asp (external link)

Very interesting - it came out as a leak, DPREVIEW was asked to remove it, then it came out somewhere else, and has a name of a Ni*on representative to verify it.

So this is Ni*on's latest marketing strategy? They tried announcing the D70 just before Christmas 2003 with no deliveries until February, then they warmed over the D2H and tried to call it new, now there is a 'leak' of the D50 with no definite date for delivery. It seems like they will do anything to keep the faithful from defecting in droves.

Have Fun,

Rick

Nikon's back in the game!! In my humble opinion the D2X is the best camera out there (photojournalism) and they're also coming out with the D2Hs (lol). The D50 and D70s look to be pretty sweet. Oh well, they still don't have an STE2.

I have only seen a few bits and pieces, but it looks like the D50 will be 6MP to compete with the 350XT (or the original 300?) and the D70s is only a D70 with an upgraded 8MP chip.

I think Canon is still safely ahead.

The user manual PDF file that is posted says that the D50 uses SD cards, shoots at 2.5 frames per second, and the kit lens is an 18-55.

Interesting - what year will I be able to buy one? :p

Converting? There will be ice on Lucifer's pitchfork before I convert to Darth Vader's brand! I'm just trying to figure out how long it will take them to get it from vaporware to hardware - if you noticed, all of the illustrations are drawings, no photographs . . .

But you might be able to get my 135 after the EF 135 f1.4L hits the shelves. :p

Have Fun,

Rick
