I bought 430EXII, so I confused about auto zoom and manual zoom. For example: If I used lens kit 18-55, which is distance can I set for it?

Seriously, why can't you go try that yourself and tell us whether the picture is good or bad? Good or bad is so subjective and personal that you should be able to experiment and see what you like for yourself. I can understand that if you had to go to the dark room and develop film to see the results that it would be a pain, but with a digital camera it will take you less time to do the test shots than to read this message. And you will learn quite a lot by doing your own experiments ... I hope. Canon 40D; Canon 70-200 mm f/2.8L IS, 17-55mm f/2.8 IS, 85 mm f/1.8; 580EX II; Sigma EF-530 DG Super; CyberSyncs

Feb 26, 2009 13:22 | #12 Curtis N wrote in post #7411749 Phil, The flash zoom setting simply changes the flash unit's coverage angle. It has nothing to do with distance (though it does affect the flash units maximum range). Zooming simply makes most efficient use of the light by covering an angle just large enough for your lens' field of view. This is my purpose. Because I don't know the effect of unit "mm" in flash, i think it's the distance can use of flash to subject. 5DsR, Rokinon FE 12 mm f/2.8, Canon 35 II f/1.4, Sigma 50mm f/1.4, MP-E 65mm,Canon 85mm f/1.4 L IS, Canon macro 100mm f/2.8, Canon 17-40mm f/4.0 L,Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L, Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L, 580ex II.
