I've got to choose between an SD890IS for $137 or an SD990IS for $236. I've got the 890 in hand, but I can still return it. If I want to get the 990, I have to buy it NLT Fri so time is running out. The 890 was an Amazon deal that's expired while the 990 is an AAFES deal due to expire. Any suggestions? TIA

Better for what? Have you tried the 890 in typical (for you) situations? What are the situations you'll be using it in?

Well, just took the 890 to the Sierras for a weekend in the snow. It did pretty good outside, but my wife used it indoors and all the pics look terrible. It could be user error, but she has a SD750 and she usually takes decent pics. Anyway, I already went thru a G9 and G10 (sold both), so this p&s will be for times I'm lazy to drag the dslr. I also have a G3 that I still use. The SDxxx is just good to put in the pocket for convenience. I'm just trying to figure out the best bang out of the two.

How were they terrible? None of these guys have great high ISO performance, nor is the flash anything to write home about if you're used to a 580EX. And ISO isn't the universal panacea. I really wouldn't look for one or the other of your options to blow you away; given that, the cheaper one would be the best value. The 990 has a larger sensor, but it's also got more pixels, so noise isn't likely to be markedly better.

Yeah i'll probably keep the cheaper one. My G9/G10 experiment should have taught me not to expect anything from an SD series. The G series was good, but bulky, especially if I mounted a 430 or 580 on top. It kind of defeated the purpose. I just needed a pocketable cam to take out to dinner parties or gtg's.
