I just picked up this old-school lens and I'm wondering if anyone else has one or had one?

http://www.adaptall-2.com/lenses/60B.html (external link)

It came with a 1.4x and 2.0x tc and I noticed you can stack them!

I'm planning to use this to shoot wildlife and birds for fun.

I had that lens in high school and college for sports; used it on Nikon F3s. From what you could tell from film and prints (:D) it is very good. It was about half the price of the Nikon but performed similarly. Tamrons of that age and level were very well built. The colour of the lens itself is a bit odd.

Now I've read in the digital age that it is a popular MF 300/2.8 because of the very high IQ wide open.

That's good to hear, Hoff.
The lens is built like a tank and metal everywhere. I think it will need no less than a monopod wherever it goes.
Looks like this lens will do 420 @ f4, 600 @ f5.6 and 840 @ f8. I will have to do some tests to see how the IQ holds up in each case.

I had one for several years. Worked great on my T90. When I switched to digital tried to use on 40d, but finally sold it to help with the cost of new 300 2.8 with IS. It is a great lens, just curious how much you paid for it. I got $600 for mine with both tc's and case.

I would've grabbed it for $500 CDN as well. Let me know if you decide you're not using it enough.

Wow, I just bought one and get a Tamron --> Canon EOS adapter last week, very busy recently plus it rains for a whole week in Hong Kong, not a chance to test any outdoor photo yet.

I'll keep you post about this issue.

Hi MHO, pity the weather is still bad here, however I've took a few shots through the glass at my office today, without tripod or monopod.

See some sample.

Converted from large RAW to jpeg, I haven't do any adjustment by DPP, just resized only.

Hello,

I have a chance near from me to get one SP300 f2.8 LD IS 60B.

After checking all over the internet, it seem that this is a Adaptall 2,
can you confirm ?

I want to fit it on my Canon 5D2 with Adaptall 2 to EF I found on Ebay.

Thanks

Yes, it is an Adaptall-2 lens. This should all work fine.

I recently used this lens to photograph a shuttle launch: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=744866

And here's a sample from just yesterday:

I've found this lens is not easy to use. It's heavy, it's a pain to hold without the palm rest, and on top of that you're trying to turn the focus ring while holding it up. Be prepared to practice with it and invest in a monopod if you haven't already.

Should be considered necessary equipment on a 300/2.8 and bigger.
