i got one to share.. from a family session

many have asked me if i use a meter?

i don't have a meter..

what i do is get shutter speeds to support the look i like on the lcd.

then i turn my light up or down or slight adjustments in the fstop to get the proper look on the subject.

then if you are out of range, then bump your ISO one way or another and start all over.

keep in mind, my shutter speed sync is 1/200 max.. so the sweet spot is some where 1/100 and 1/200 for me..

and here is the photo

I want to be like you when grow up. That is perfect!

Canon 40D; 50 f1.8, 70-200 f2.8 IS L, 580 EX II, 1.4 TC, 24-70 f2.8 L, (2) 430 EX II

Hey Pham

I love her pose, but I think that background is really working against her. To me, the contrast between the leaves and the white sky are almost vibrating.

Did you try this as a BW, by any chance?

no black and white.. takes the yellow golden light away.

ok.. how about this one>? it is really my favorite photo i have done recently now..

Hey Pham

Maybe its just the amount of the background that was nagging at me...

Image edit -- feel free to hate it! :)

Matt your edit seems to have lost all the punch of the original. Must say I prefer Phams.

No sweat. Props always to Pham for opening himself up to a little harmless critique.

Oh, I don't think you need the help. I learn more fiddling with your pictures than I do taking my own! :)

Matt,

i read your blog.. your writing skills are amazing.. i wish i had 10 percent of your eloquence, me i just fumble words like ohio state football players..

enough talk.. more photos..

(still fascinated with sun flares and shooting into the sun..)

i did a soccer senior shoot tonight,

it was done where i really didn't want to do the shoot.. the back ground was super noisy. and the red net was ouch.. not so photographically sound.. haha.. i made the best of what i had..

though she wanted to do shots at her goal and i don't blame here, it is her house.. (goalie talk..)

some photos.. it was cold, so she had a reddish tint to her skin.. i don't know what to do about it.. i tried to warm it up a bit.. and her red jersey didn't help either.. lol..

I like the color and the photo is properly exposed, but the butterfly shadow is working against you here. The little drop shadow at the tip of the nose is creating a "hook" effect, accentuating the size of her nose -- something you always want to avoid, in my opinion.

thnx for the tip...
