thanks

to show what a single speed light can do for 2 people shot

this was a shoot dedicated to Abercr@mbie and Fitch style of photography..
i wanted to make that feel and mood...
so i appropriately called it my PHAMbercombie series.. haha..
lighting on this was surprisingly just one 28 inch by 28 inch softbox... with a single 580EXII triggered by a cactus trigger system

Camera:Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Exposure:0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture:f/4.0
Focal Length:35 mm
ISO Speed:50
Exposure Bias:0 EV
Flash:Off, Did not fire

Wonderful work. Great to see what you can do with 1 speedlight. Wish I had half your skill. Back to practicing.

here is another one..

single 550 bare...

i used the pocket wizard flex flex combo for this shot - when i was learning the pocket wizards and messing around with on camera controls to get the exposures correctly

during this time, i had to get my shutter speeds above the 1/500 speeds because in the range of 1/200 to 1/500 the sync didn't work right.. but above 1/500 i was getting good results.. it was buggy and still is.. thus my ISO was higher to get the speeds up..
hopefully that made sense to the readers out there...

data for the shot

Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1000)
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 185 mm
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: -4/3 EV
Flash: On, Fired

What lens did you use and where did you have the flash. Awesome pictures!! I wish I could get the lighting down pat like you have mastered.

I'll guess 70-200 f/2.8 and above camera right, sun for backlighting

^^That would be my guess, probably a descent distance away to get more of an even light.

My first post in this thread. Sorry not up to the standards of you guys but I like it. Canon 580ex fired in to a soft box with two cheap flash lights to blow out the background. Oh and my first real go at studio type photos.

Hi
I am very new to digital photography and have seen the great pictures in here.

I have a few questions about how I can get to take these kind of photos. I have a very limited budget and have read the thread from the start. I know it is about practice.

What would be a cheap starting point for wireless transmitter (Best Value, not bothered if they are a little temperamental, I also understand the adage about buying cheap buy twice) and light stands?

Can I use my Sunpak pz40 with another slave flash set in manual?

Do I need a flash mounted on the camera?

Would 1 flash and a reflector be the way to start?

Here are a couple that my wife was proud of!
1D Mark IV, 35L, 580EX II off camera with PW FlexTT5 units, and my first post in the OCF!
Would love feedback so I can learn!

First step, pick up a stand, umbrella, and swivel bracket. Second step, radio trigger. RF-602, check ebay or do a google search. There are other triggers available, but these are the current top of the heap and you dont save much by going with lesser models. I dont know your flash, but if it allows manual power control you are good to go.

With radio triggers you dont need, or even want a flash mounted on the camera. A flash on the camera defeats the purpose of having your lights off camera. You can start with one flash, there is a good thread here that shows what cab be done with one flash (search single strobe) but a second flash can be very useful.

Phamster, it is making sense to me ONLY because I have Flex Units as well and I was having issues. I an not exactly too exstatic about the PWs right now, but when they work they work. Did a fun shoot this weekend and did not bring the sock with me and had issues. I will have to try above 1/500 to see if I had the same issue as you.

I will now look into that.I am looking into thread.
I have a tripod for the camera would you say it should be replaced, it is a little video one not very strong.
I think I have an idea of what I want but I will do some more research.
Thanks
Simon
