A CTO Gel on your flash would have balanced the ambient Orange light. I personally find it distracting!

i did use a CTO Gel.. read my post..

To be fair to the poster, CTO was not mentioned, just "gel".

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

i think he was trying to emulate Pham's use of a bokeh layer to get some depth, I agree that its not working, but I think its the additional layers causing the problem.

To summarize, yes...it is a texture layer with a lens flare layer. I have been inspired by Pham lately and wanted to give it a try myself. I make no claims to be any where near the level Pham is... ;)

But I agree with him, if I, too, don't try new things, I will never learn. Does it work? Maybe. I actually like it. Annie (the client) really likes it too. Does everyone? No, and I realized that. Are there things I can do better? Absolutely! That is why I appreciate everyone's C&C on it...good and bad.

The spots on the track are some of the lens flare. Perhaps I should have masked them out. I may try that to see if it is better. I did mask Annie out completely, but it didn't look right to me. So I masked some of the texture/flare back in with a lower opacity brush.

It's just part of an experiment to learn some PP skills. I'm not in any way trying to copy Pham, but I have been motivated and inspired by him. Besides, isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery? :D

Anything y'all may have, good and bad, I will be glad to take. I just wanted to answer everyone's question about, since I've been too busy to be on the forum in the past couple of days!

You know on Flickr I said I wanted to make a comment and I said I'd save it for here...... well my comment was about using a gel............. It's a great shot and the ambient is wicked I just wonder if the CTO could have done with being a tad stronger. I wasn't sure if you'd used one at all to be honest, though to be fair you can tell on here you have (can't tell on Flickr ).

Always trying to improve my use of ambient lighting in combination with OCF. This still needs to be edited because this is SOOC.

Thank you for the such polite comeback.

Kate Senior ~ Golden fields

Radio poppers used to get this file.

2 speed lights near each other with radio poppers for the wireless triggers to sync up in hyper sync

split toning was used for final processing..

sorta like a reddish sepia..

speed lights were about 7 feet away from her in Ettl mode.. so no thinking..

There's just something about this shot that is fresh and doesn't have the jaded look of typical oc flash shots. I don't mean anyone any offense, btw, it's just nice to see something different on this particular thread.

Here is a preview from Lance's shoot tonight. I'm finally starting to get a few more calls now that the fall colors are finally coming.

I lit this with one Vivitar 283, bare, on a light stand about 5-6 feet away. I wanted to go with a bit harder lighting look, so I left my umbrellas in the truck. (Plus the wind was blowing like 20 mph at hte very least! LOL)

Had some fun experimenting with some processing in PS. Always trying to learn new things! We had a ton of fun and did some, shall we say, interesting shots? More to come later!

I like this one and think you did an awesome job. Pretty model too. The one thing that kind of distracts me is the shiny forehead. When I was practicing OCF with my wife I noticed that her skin looked fine normally but once I took a picture of her using flash her skin looked shiny and almost wet even though it wasn't. She then started to powder her face before the practice shoots and that took care of it. Sorry for the long winded reply, just a suggestion you might try next time.
