Hey Pham I really like the field shots. #2 is my favorite, some of the others have weeds in the foreground that aren't lit and take away from the shot a little. Looks like #2 you might have shot from a little higher perspective. Thanks for sharing these, you have got some energy.

Scottdsa-Really nice series. I especially like #3. Small nit with that shot is not enough light on her left eye but overall this is really nice.

Here is one that the couple loved... It was a 1947 Chrysler and I set a 430ex triggered by a skyport in the front seat. Had to grab it quick before they drove away...

Thanks Stan - I agree but interestingly enough that one won the best of vote for the workshop on the Texas Photo Forum. Who'd a thunk it!

.......I read that the setup was a 550 and a 580. Were both firing (if you can remember back that far)? :)

With TTL - you don't use a preflash to meter your shot? I thought you had to do a preflash with TTL for the camera to know how to meter (forgive me I'm a newbie).

I see in that shot that the fast shutter speed is what prevented the subject from getting blown out by the bare flash. You shoot in AV?

Oh and one last thing - do you point your bare flash right at the subject when not using a modifier?

I have some really old light stands, a 16 foot ETTL off camera shoe cord (couldn't afford anything else) and a softlighter on the way. I can't wait to get started.

Now I just have to find a willing model. ;)

In this shot the 550 was mounted on camera and the 580 mounted on light stand. (my setup everytime) The 580 is the only flash firing. 96.99991 percent of the time I never let the flash mounted on camera fire.

I do shoot TTL and there is always a preflash. You are correct its needed for the calculation of how much flash power is needed for the actual firing of the flash.

I do shoot AV and Manual. F stop controls flash.... shutter speed controls ambient....

Yes, I do point the bare flash at the subject.

Hope this helps..... Others chime in if I missed something.

Thanks so much... as I was reading through there was some discussion about the * button on the back of the camera. I have a 40D that has a * and a AF button. Does the * control your preflash and lock in your settings or is your camera different? I have been using that just prior to taking my shots.

Thanks again!!

The wind kept me from using a second fill flash. Nothing too creative on the poses because the dogs would not keep still.

^^^

Not bad bro!

I don't do much in editing. All of my exif data is posted on my flickr. I do all of the editing in LightRoom 2.0 and hardly use photoshop anymore.
