Do any of you guys get vignetteing at 24 mm with your 24-105 on your 5D?
I dont have an example right now because I am on my laptop but can do one later!

Thanks in advance

Iain

Like a bi*ch. Sold it a month ago, not due to the vignetting though. It's a great lens.

The 24-105L vignettes at 24mm, but it clears up quite a bit by 28mm or by stopping down.

Here is 24mm at f/4 and f/5.6

Yes, normal, and even more pronounced with a CPF in place. The artistry of photography is applying techniques to work around it which only takes a moment of awareness of the tendency. It still is wonderful on the full frame camera and not unlike the 24-70,17-40, 70-200 with some slight differences. Post-processing tkes it out if you forget to avoid it in the original imaging.

Don

I'm curious... does the 5Dii also show similar vignetting with the 24-105 at f/5.6?

Vignetting will always be the same for the same-sized sensor. It is a lens characteristic.

It's not the camera/sensor, but the lens. It will show the same characteristics on any ff sensor.

Also note that you cannot stack lens filters using a 24-105 and a FF camera, as the second filter's edge will be visible in the photo. I encountered this when putting my polarizer on top of my UV filter for convenience sake.

I also noticed vignetting when I had a 5D, and the 5D mark II's peripheral illumination correction seems to help - but doesn't entirely fix it. I always edit it out in Lightroom if its bothersome, which takes 5 seconds.

TonyLong put it well, this is a lens issue. The 24-105 is a great lens, very versatile and my walk around lens, but is well known to vignette on a FF wide open. As said above though this is very easily fixed in post.

Yes it does. This can be alleviated somewhat when converting the raw files. Its really not too bad unless you are wide-open.

However, as said, filters will become visible.

This is the reason the new 16-35 II and the 24TS-E both have 82mm filter threads. The wider opening allows for less vignetting with filters.

When I do landscapes or anything similar at 24, I remove my UV and place my polarizer directly onto the lens. I then handhold my GND infront. This really reduces the chance of vignette as opposed to stacking filters and a filter holder.

at f4, all the time. It's full-frame, no complaints - my 17-40 vignettes like crazy at f4 at 17mm. Expected.
