I dreamt last night that I lost my 40D in a crowd. I woke up and wondered, what would I do? Get another cam right away of course, but ... which one?

haha....

I have the very opposite dreams.

I dream I'm shooting with 1D Mark III's and 400 f/2.8 and other gear that I DON'T have...

Ahaha.......... No wonder why I'm always broke.

:D

What you do is based on your own situation. Only you know that!
Stop Dreaming and stick to photography. You'd replace the stolen camera with whatever you could afford.

What's the Poll for???? It's your decision!

Replace it with a MkIIn

But whatever I shoot always seems to be in a uniform.

It looks like the majority want you to "Quit Photography" . Then the rest of us could have useful discussions about togging and problem solving!

Mine WAS stolen. First thing is to file a police report. Then, notify the insurance company. I had planned on getting a 40D once I received the claim check, except that I found a used 50D for a good price.

There's no option for "I hope insurance will get me a new one, because if it, I can't afford a new camera."

However, I do still have my 3.:p

Sorry, but isn't that stating the obvious. At least you've done something positive to deal with a real event. The OP is just wasting our time with something that hasn't happened.
I'm sure you will replace the stolen camera with the best option available with the insurance money that i hope you get!

I'd get a 5D Mk II as I just fell in love with it - then sell the 17-55/2.8 IS and replace it with a 16-35/2.8L.

Normally you end up with a cheque or vouchers for a large retailer (Jess*ps in the UK) so you still have the choice of what to buy.
