Hi guys! I've just had an endownment of 1000 come through for my birthday and I am looking to buy a new camera. I'vecurrently got a 400D and feel that it's restricting me a bit in the noise department, I don't really like going over iso 400 TBH.

I'm looking at a used 40D for 450 (sory my pound sign doesnt work), but am wondering what the noise levels are like? and whether I should just get a used 5D for 800?

I would probably buy an 85 1.8 with the leftover money if I do get the 40D but if I ad the 5D I'd be with just my 24-70 2.8 sigma ...? Decisions, decisions ...

Opinions are greatly appreciated! :D

If you want to shoot any action go for the 40d, it is very good on high iso's.

You'd like the 40D. It's usable at all ISO settings.

I too went from a 400D to a 40D. The AF is a god send and high ISOs are more usable.

As it happens I just upgraded to the 5D Mk II and am sell a 40D right this moment. Auction ends Sunday 21:00:

I think I'll probaby go for a new one TBH ... it's like £100 more so I may as well. I'm now debating between the sigma 301.4 or the 85 1.8 :s

Can anyone tell me the actaul ISO increments? just for reference lol?

Since you're considering the 40D, why not also look at the 50D?

But choosing between the two really depends on what you shoot. Birds or sports - get the xxD. Weddings or events or landscapes, get the 5D.

My $0.02.

btw - congrats (in advance) on your new camera!

I've realised I can't really justify the 5D, so am probably going to get the 40D and a nice lens I've have my eye on or a while :)
Thanks for the opinions :D

You should ideally rent both the 40D and the 5D. If you can't, well you should just buy the 5D :p
