My better half and I ventured up to Stevens Pass on Friday for a little night skiing. I stuffed my XT and 50 1.8 into my jacket pocket and took a few snaps during the course of the evening.

C&C welcome.

1. First run. Atop the Big Chief chairlift (elev. 4600 ft ish) looking NNE. After an epic dumping in December, the snowpack in the Cascades is down considerably. Stevens averages 450 in. of snow per season and so far this year it's received 231 in. Mt. Baker, which sits 90 or so miles north of here, holds the US record for snowfall in a season, with 1,140 in. reported 1998-99. That's 95 feet!

2. Same chairlift, few runs later. This time looking WSW.

3. Big Chief chairlift again about halfway down Showcase run. Took off my glove, threw it on the snow, set my camera on it and fired off a 10 sec. exposure.

4. Parting shot from the lodge area. Light snow produced funky rainbows in the color version, so i went black and white. Don't really care for the result.

Yeah, Fosse, #2 could use a little NR. The snow looks like crap. Thought I hit it but must not have.

Cheers.

Thanks for some great shots AND the inspiration to just bring your camera anywhere no matter what and use what you have to get a shot. I like how you just threw down your glove and made that third long exposure happen.

Before I saw the bit about the glove I was thinking, "So, did he have a monopod or what?" You've helped remind us that creativity is not just in the shot itself, but can also involve how you get the shot. We needn't always be limited by our equipment or lack thereof. Thanks again!

The first two were handheld. The last two were "glove" shots.

Great comment. Glad my images evoked some thought. I wish I took my camera to more places.

Straightening...lol. Every time I straighten the horizon, I hang the picture crooked.
