I understand the language spoken here; it doesn't raise my blood pressure like political sites; witty snark is not a requirement; everything loads without a bunch of pop ups; people care what other people think--in other words, it's not your normal internet tubes!

High praise indeed!

^+1, but mainly to learn. An added bonus is that i get to see some of the amazing pictures that others have taken.

A bit of a succup, but true, all the same ;)

POTN is a place where I can try to gain as much information and knowledge as possible....

Great answer.

Did you know that life-long learning can reduce the risk of brain-waste! Keep at it!

Being a Nikon shooter I obviously didn't really join it for gear talk. It's very interesting to have a better knowledge of the "other team," but it's mostly just that this is a fantastic community. I'm sure Nikonians is almost as big but I've never been inside the forums. Their new pay-to-play policy is a horrible move and its layout hurts my eyes anyway.

What I'm trying to say is... it's fun here! People aren't so serious, like they are on other forums, but here they are just as helpful.

Have you Calibrated your Monkey lately?

Now more than ever we need to be a community, working together and for each other, as photographers, as lovers of photography and as members of POTN.

Hear, Hear! We have a lot of great stuff here and try to minimize the bickering -- and I think it's way cool that so many Nikon shooters like to hang out here!

"...way cool..." is an understatement! It demonstrates that enough Canon guys 'n' girls make it clear that they love photography and that the camera doesn't really matter that much.

It's a place for me to talk to people about photography and for me to learn more about it. If I wanted to talk in person, there's only one person I can talk to about it properly (as in learn things off and give tips, rather than just have them say cool picture) and that's a teacher at my school. It's good having more people to talk to about something like photography. Help and advice is as good as new gear... maybe not that good but it is good ;)

I have met over 20 of the members here, maybe around 30, actually. I've never been disappointed. Well, there is Mark. I've met him twice! But he's a complete sweetheart. :) Everyone is helpful and we all speak the same language. I've learned a ton here.

Mainly to search for the meaning of life. I haven't had much luck yet, but I got close in the 5DII speculation thread.

To learn, share knowledge and photographs, and to get a good laugh occasionally. (And no, that's not a reference to "the" joke :p)
