Oh, what light! But unfortunately, the elk wasn't in it. Shame he's shadowed out. Perhaps if you'd been able to catch him with his head up, from a lower angle, that would have helped. It's still nice to see a big game animal photographed in the wild and not in some zoo or fenced in game park - good job!

"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

It's a good shot, but could have been great if the elk stood in the sunlight.

I agree, I couldn't get him to cooperate. This is the only shot where they weren't in the shade.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas and feedback!

ckort, I was sitting, taking my time, shooting pictures, and the wind stopped for a couple of seconds and I think they heard my camera and spooked. Back into the woods they went. I was going to wait until they moved and/or wait for the sun (the sun was still rising), but no cooperation. I don't know what they heard, but they were gone. The wind was in my face with the sun on my back, perfect setup, so I thought.

I will be going back in a couple of weeks and hope get some more pictures plus some shots of the Bighorn Sheep. I'll post if I get lucky.
