Question about chargnig the SD1100IS

Does the camera charge when you plug it into the USB on this camera or do you have to remove the battery and charge it in the charger?

You need to put the battery into the charger.

That's what I was thinking. Kind of a hassle but not a big deal.

I wonder why they don't make it charge through the USB?

Well, the charger's quite fast, and if you were expected to use the USB port to charge, you'd have a harder time using 2 batteries. I don't hook my camera up to the computer via USB much at all. File transfers are also faster via card reader.

Another consideration is what if something goes haywire while the batteries are charging? Like, what if there's a leak or a fire or something? I'd rather have the batteries be charging in a separate charger and lose a $20 - $30 charger than risk losing a $200+ camera.

that's true...i just got the camera and went ahead and got a 2nd battery but the original one is still going strong after about 400 shots so i'm impressed so far
