Does the camera charge when you plug it into the USB on this camera or do you have to remove the battery and charge it in the charger?

I don't hook my camera up to the computer via USB much at all. File transfers are also faster via card reader. Jon

Like, what if there's a leak or a fire or something? I'd rather have the batteries be charging in a separate charger and lose a $20 - $30 charger than risk losing a $200+ camera. .
