Far from good but this was my very first attempt and these shots are on the armrest to my door while I had my window down...so they were handheld...I actually was just checking out the wildlife when I saw the flakes starting to accumulate and decided to do a quick change from the 100-400 to the sigma 105 macro...didnt think I would get anything but now I need to figure out how to do it the right way (any and all help is much appreciated)...anyway here they are(oh and I had to process them(not well either) in picasa as I am awaiting for LR to show up in the mail)

unfortunately they are good size crops too:

Thanks, I know they are very noisy and not sharp but I never imagined I could get something even close to those.

Nicely done, despite the noise and cropping. Better than anything I've managed to date, that's for sure.

Thank you...we don't get much snow here at all so my chances to try again will be very limited...this is probably the 1st actual accumulation in over 4 years as we are lucky to just get a flurry here and there each year.

Thank you

What I am curious about is the following:

Is there a way to keep the flake from melting faster?
IE: put a piece of glass in a freezer and take it out when it snows?

Would a piece of glass painted black help (or whatever type of material)

What sorta shutter speed and aperture would work best.

Flash or no flash?(I didnt use a flash)

Manual or Auto Focus...I tried both and not knowing where it would land and then getting it in the frame was not easy at all.

Tripod or Hand held? Mine of course were hand held but when I got home I tried to set up the tripod but the snow was barely falling at that point so I didnt get a single picture with the tripod :(

Any and all tips/tricks etc will be much appreciated.
