Correct me if I'm wrong, it happens, but I cannot see a lot in these images that would test the 1D's fix, which was the focusing, more speficially the AI-Servo mode. Unless you were focusing on the golf ball in which case it's hard to see in these images.

I think he is presenting evidence that even in very bright situations it holds it's focus. I know that it had issues with this in the past.

Just some random shooting in my backyard. Not sure this constitutes a test, but I have nothing to complain about having had it back for a few weeks now...

The point I tried to make was that even at f/4.5 and a fairly low shutter speed the vast majority of the image was NOT out of focus. I used "single point focus" and it was set on the players body.

I would think a golf swing is pretty stationary when it comes to body positioning. You had pretty decent shutter speed at 1/800. Probably fast enough to stop movement on a golfer's body (assuming not a pro golfer) but not fast enough to stop the golf club.

I'm not surprised at the results...and they look good.:D

I only WISH we could send to the US. Then I would have had my camera back weeks ago with the fix applied (instead of going on 5 weeks now with Canon uncertain as to whether or not they applied "the fix", and forgetting to update the firmware).

Send it to me, I'd be happy to shoot it to Canon USA for you.

Thanks mbellot! I may take you up on that offer if things aren't to my satisfaction when I get my camera back.

Off topic, but this is for the 1D3'ers so I might as well post the link here.

Those were shot with the 200L + 2X TC @400mm f5.6. They are also heavily cropped as well.
Not bad, especially for someone who only uses 400mm occasionally. (Not a birder, and am only shooting birds because I want to test the 1DMKIII after the recall.)

Well, I'm satisfied.

Finally got a chance to shoot some motorsports stuff this weekend. Despite it being cold and rainy I was quite satisfied with the results.
I'm not regularly a burst mode shooter, but I purposely did several to see what happened and the keeper rate was almost 100%, and possibly the few OOF shots could well have been my error.

The posted image impressed me because it was taken giving the camera literally no time to react. I had just set the monopod and put the camera to my eye when I saw the car approaching. I had only a split second to press the shutter and while I'll admit to being lucky with the framing the MkIII snapped to focus immediately.

The rather poor light from a very heavy overcast day forced me to ISO800 to get decent shutter speeds

I haven't got the AF fix, but running 1.2.5 Any adverse reason to go back to 1.2.3?

I wouldn't see any reason to go back unless you are having problems.
Nice website and MM gallery btw!

I'm off to a motorsport event this weekend for the first time in a while. I will try the 1D now to see how it performs after the trip to Canon.

I'll keep you all posted. Thats if you want to be :)

I've been following this string for a while now and sent my 1D3 back to Canon UK two weeks ago to resolve the AF issues. I received the camera back within 4 days and I have to say the service was second to none.
With regards to the fix.....wow! I tested it last weekend at Gurston Down Hill Climb the shots were some of the best I have taken. The autofocus is so much quicker, accurate and results far more reliable with the number of OOF shots around 2-3% which is more likely user error rather than the camera!
