Well, my 1D is on it's way to VA. I told the rep I had trouble focusing an athlete running towards me (long jump). Only a couple out of 6-8 shots in succession would come out. The rep checked my serial number and said it was included in the notice so she sent me the paperwork and label.

I sure thought I had bought one that was manufactured after the troubles had arisen.

Maybe yours is before the major first fix.

I was going to send mine in today but then it was cutting it too close for events I would love to shoot the 1d3 with in a few weeks. Seems to be focusing fine now that it is back to the 1.2.3 firmware. Maybe it is just me, not sure but it is still going to go in.

A tech had stated that the new firmware has some AF adjustments designed to work with the new "fix", so just upgrading to the new firmware without the fix may not be the best idea. (apparently they don't always advertise every little change in every firmware update).

My 1Dmk3(56..) was again in service, now in Finland. It was service in UK before i bought it.
Now they changed mirrorbox and calibrated. Both of my my lenses were out of scale too.

I just wondering why Canon UK service doesn't change the box?

I would have thought if yours is serial number 56xxxx then its after they started replacing them when in production.

I thought same way when i saw Canon UK receipt, but service person in Fin told me today that he changed "new model mirrorbox" today. Why Canon UK doesn't change "old model mirrorbox"?

Mine was well outside the range but they replaced it with this latest fix, possibly because of intermittent Err99 issues.

Good news. I sent my camera back for the 3rd time (total time at Canon service has been almost 8 weeks since January and they forgot to apply the fix last time). I talked to the service manager at Missy yesterday, and she thanked me for my patience, said the camera would be looked at by the top tech, and sent out today. Now that's fantastic (as long as the camera works when I get it).

So, there, I've now said something positive about Canon Canada.

Well my lens is still in NJ waiting for a part. Last week the part sent was the wrong one, so I have no idea how long it will be. We are working on 3 weeks here. It is hard to be mad when it is being done for free, but at some point I would love to have my most used lens back! lol

Wow, fast service from Canada, and messed up/3 week service from Canon USA? Bizarro!

Now you've gone and done it...

You'll probably get a Nikon CoolPix back.

:p

I'm still hoping they will send what their work-order actually says my camera is... a 1DS MKIII

Received my 1Ds M III back from VA depot repair. Being In CA I stupidly let it travel Ground so it took a week to reach them. They received it Monday of this week and I have it in my hands today as they returned it FedEx overnight per my (polite) request. I am completely OK with this turn around.

Serial 623069.

I suspected AI Servo issues, in conjunction with simply too many OOF shots. Coming from a 5D I have been fighting this issue for a while. So on the work order i indicated motion tracking while in Servo mode was certainly suspect, but in addition, please verify the overall AF system and pieces. And, having just returned from a howling wind-dust storm in Spain, please clean the thing for me.

Too soon to post shots, but I spent the last hour re-doing the Focus Micro Adjustments. Each lens is improved, or another way of saying it is most are less "off".

the 35 f/1.4 is now +5 instead of +10
the 24 f/1.4 is now +10 instead of +16
the 50 f/1.2 went from 0 to +5.

As before, the 135 f/2.0 is dead on 0, and the 85 f/1.2 II as well, at 0 adjustment.

So it is clear to me, before I work this out with some shots, things changed internally. And it is clean as new.

The work order states....

"AF Accuracy adjustment, update firmware."

FYI

My 1DMKIII is even OK with the 200L + 1.4x TC + 2x TC stacked in Servo. Granted, it jitters, but given enough contrast it settles down soon enough.

I think if your camera serial is earlier than a certain number (around 548xxx), and wasn't previously sent for the secondary mirror fix which was announced about a year ago, then they will replace it now in addition to doing the lastest focus adjustments.

If your camera has a later serial number, then the mirror change isn't needed. The cameras with later serial numbers would have been manufactured with the updated secondary mirror being fitted at the factory. If you did send it back for the mirror fix, Canon would have made a mark to let them know this work has already been carried out (so they don't neede to do it a second time).

At least that's what Canon UK said when I asked them about this. My own camera has an early serial number and I didn't send it back to them at the time the secondary mirror came out, so persumably that will also be done if I send it in now.
