Canon Entry Level Camera With HD Video

When do you think Canon will release an Entry level or Prosumer model camera with HD video capabilities? I never thought I would care about video on an SLR, but after seeing so many videos being released from the 5D mkII I suddenly want to do video editing as well. I know the Nikon d90 has it, but that camera is as expensive as the Canon xxd models.

I imagine that it will become standard over the next year or two. Hopefully they will address some of the snags, like the lack of effective aperture control, before it gets too widespread:)!

Very soon. Nikon has one with the D90. Canon won't allow Nikon to take over that price-point for too long. I say between Summer/Winter. Just a guess.

I would agree that it's coming soon to all models.

The new SX1 IS shoots HD video... :) It's not a full blown DSLR - but it's close! I want one just for kicks... I hate addictions.

entry level camera with HD, look no further than teh new powershot cameras

d90 is not an entry level camera, nor is it prosumer. those honors go to the d60 and d300/d700.

I just did some research on the google about the cam and seen some HD vid. I am surprised to see the IQ and Sound Quality to be usable. I think I might just get one for vacations, when the 5D Mrk II is too heavy and I am too lazy to lug it around

I'd guess that entry/consumer level won't have full HD video like the 5D does.

I hope Canon does make it soon within the near future with HD video or I'm switching to Nikon real soon.

I'd say when ever the XSi is replaced it will have video. Probably 1080p, but who knows. That's my guess. I'm interested in where video and DSLR's are going, so I am watching intently.

That would probably be a bad idea. I assume you would go with the D90 which has 720 HD. It's also a first generation video system which lacks auto focus and other features that make it truly usable as a video camera (outside of the novelty of it).

The next generation Canon cameras will likely have full 1080 HD (like the 5DMk2) and might include advanced features not yet seen in the current D90/5DMk2 including the ability to auto-focus. The next generation Canon's will be out in the next year I imagine. So that means when they hit the streets with gen 2 technology, you will be locked into the D90 with its 1st gen tech which probably won't see an update for a couple of years.

So, jumping ship from Canon to Nikon simply because the D90 has crude 1st gen video capabilities seems ill-advised. That is, unless you just want to go Nikon anyway and you're looking for any excuse to justify it. :)

I think that if Canon released a entry level camera with video mode it would sell like crazy. A lot of beginners that I know would love to have video mode on their cameras.

Canon didnt actually answer your prayers. The entry-level DSLR is the 1000D and not the 500D. 500D is considered a consumer DSLR. ;)
