Nikon flashes and canon hot shoes?

Are Nikon speedlights compatible with Canon hot shoes? Nikon speedlights can be purchased for much cheaper price than a Canon 430exII. I am just kind of thinking out loud in this thread.

they will work but only in manual flash power...no TTL

Oh wow. You can sit a Nikon flash on top of the hotshot on a Canon camera. That's scary to know.


First three Canon 5Ds. Some lights (some really fancy ones too). Some glass (maybe a few too many but who's keeping track?). Some cool stamps on my passport.

Why would that be scary? Its part of the reason there is a standard flash shoe.

I like it personally. I'm a Canon fan boy, but Nikon flashes seem to be alot cheaper, and just as good.
