I bought a used 100-300 non-DG lens. It front focused with my cameras. The previous owner used an older camera and had no issues, btw (yes, he is to be trusted). I shipped the lens to Sigma for a repair quote, thinking they may take pity and fix it for $100 or so.

Several weeks go by with no word. I call and am surprised to hear the girl say "warranty repair". I asked her to double check. She did and said "warranty repair".

But they had to wait for parts from Japan. The wait took about 6 weeks.

Today I got a box from Sigma. Opened the box and something didn't seem quite right. I thought for sure I shipped the naked lens but they've returned it in a display box. Hmm, whatever.

As I unpacked it a wave of disbelieve washed over me. It started with the technician's note on the repair order, trying to see what magic they had worked on my lens but all it said was "REPLACED SN#xxxxx". Huh? Replaced WHAT? As I opened the box, the answer hit me. They replaced the lens.

The whole stinkin' thing.

I sent them a dysfunctional non-DG lens that I bought used and they sent me a brand new DG version complete with all the papers & stuff free of charge.

I'm still in such a state of shock that I haven't even mounted it to the camera.

The manufacture cost of that DG lens was probably lower than the hassle they had to go through...

Is it an EX lens? I think they actually check the serial number for warranty.

Sigma's service is EXCELLENT - their service here is way better than Canon's, but it's just a huge a shame how often their lenses need servicing....

I thought it was going to be a negative "unbelievable" horror story. That was nice of them.

That is a great story. Good on you. Makes me feel good to own a Sigma, knowing they care at least a little.

I know of a similar experience with someone's 120-300. Sigma is a good company overall.

Hey glad everything worked out. Same thing happened to me. I bought a used Sigma 30 F1.4 from a member on this forum. Backfocus problem with my 40d so I sent it in for a quote. I got a brand new one with new caps and everything. 6 year warranty and the sheet said checked and everything is working perfect.

They are awesome over there at sigma, I got the lens back in about 4 days though instead of a few weeks.

Service and the 10 year warranty offered in Canada on new Sigma lenses is starting to fill my bag with Sigma and not Canon.

I too, thought this would be a horror story of how you repeatedly sent a sigma lens in for calibration 2000 times and yet it still wasn't right.

Great story, glad to hear and hope you enjoy the NEW replacement!
