hello. i will be attending HIN in LA in a few wks and i wanted to get some pointers on how to shoot cars w/models in such poor conditions. it's being held in the parking lot of a stadium with non ideal lighting.

with the equipment i have, can you all kindly chime in on what's my best possible lens & flash combo? in regards to using the flash, i'm at a loss if i should use my GF lightspere (cloudy)....and if so, should i point it directly at the subjects? with or without the lid? would it be a good to invest in the chrome lid that will give more light?

thanks in advance!

shoot cars w/models in such poor conditions.

If the model is the important thing, then a little fill flash might do the trick. Try the lightsphere & see what works best.
If the car & model are equally important, then I wish you lotsa' luck! You'd be better off going to an evening car meet & using the light in the tips link in my Sig.
Start with the 17-40mm & work from there. The model won't thank you for shots with the 10-17mm. ;)

at least it's not as bad as last year! (indoors with ZERO light, haha)

I'm going to be showing. Stop by the AS1*/Streetlightz booth and say hi. Don't know if I am going to be shooting though.

If you are only taking a picture of the car (ie. without a model on top) and you can make sure that noone will walk in front of the camera:

-use a long exposure (10 secs or more) and meanwhile walk around the car yourself, while manually lighting it with a flash or some other strong light.

if you do this, make sure you keep a close eye on your camera...you could start to walk around your car and come back to realize your camera and tripod are gone

:(

I'd suggest you focus on the important thing...photographing the models
