Can someone who owns a Gitzo Systematic tripod (such as the GT3531S) tell me exactly how much height does the addition of a rapid column add (such as the GS3511S) with the column in the lowest position?

I agree. This is one of the flexible features of the Systematic series. You can add a column if you want, use just the base plate, or add a leveling head. It is your choice and money. I would first get the base model and then add the additional options as needed. Jim

If the legs are too tall for a typical setup, you can pre-mark the legs where you want them to be. Then when you extend them, you can use the marks making it easier to setup. Jim
