Can someone who owns a Gitzo Systematic tripod (such as the GT3531S) tell me exactly how much height does the addition of a rapid column add (such as the GS3511S) with the column in the lowest position?
Thanks!

Not quite sure what you mean?
Obviously, you cannot use the legs in the lowest position, since the center column would hit the ground.
Apart from that, the column lock is between tripod collar and ballhead plateau now, and that adds about 4cm. (Gitzo 1325 here)

After rereading my post I realized it is not very clear.

I am concerned about the total height of the tripod being too high when the legs are fully extended so I wanted to know by using the center column how much additional height does it add when the column is in its lowest position. 4cm (about 1.5 inches) would be fine.

The height of the tripod (GT3531S) extended is 50.8" + column of 1.5" + head (say AS) of 4" + 5dii w/grip of 5" puts the eyepiece at around 61.5". I wanted to stay below 62.5" so this would work as I want to be able to also be able to see the top of the camera. (I know this sounds crazy but I wanted to make sure it would be OK before I purchase everything)

Thanks.

I have read that adjusting the legs is somewhat of a pain so I have been obsessing over the fully extended height. Do you find it easy enough to do adjustments with the legs?

If you are going down the Systemaic route, my advise it to avoid even having a centre column and get a set of legs that can go to eye level with out the need to have a centre column.

I agree. This is one of the flexible features of the Systematic series. You can add a column if you want, use just the base plate, or add a leveling head. It is your choice and money. I would first get the base model and then add the additional options as needed.

Adjusting the legs is simple with the ALR and g-locks. If the legs are too tall for a typical setup, you can pre-mark the legs where you want them to be. Then when you extend them, you can use the marks making it easier to setup.

Yes. Unless it's minor adjustments with a heavy rig.
