Seems like a sore spot with you. I'm not trying to pick a fight but what would be the cost of the 24-36 hour time savings be.
The fact it's leased out aside... I thought Private aircraft travel was a luxury/time saving device not a Money saving device.
Hmm...Form over function, Had not thought of it that way. You gave me somthing to think about here.
As a pilot, misconceptions regarding the efficacy of general aviation is a major sore spot with me.
As for the Time Vs Money point: Time IS Money.
Being able to do several cities in one trip and return the same day means no wasted hours standing in line at a major airport only to find the plane is overbooked, cancelled or otherwise delayed. It also means a savings on hotel rooms, rental cars, per diem and other misc expenses related to being out for multiple days.
Being able to drop into your customer's backyard at a small municipal airport instead of the "nearest" major hub can be the difference between getting a deal done and not getting it done.
For the record, I travel commercially 35-45 weekends a year and it would make my life exponentially easier if I could land closer to where I work each week. If I could depart later, fly direct and get home a night earlier instead of being slaved to commercial schedules and airports, damn right I'd do it. In a half a heartbeat...
Form Vs Function: Yeah, I see the artistry in the shape of an aircraft much more so than what it may actually have been designed to do. Maybe that makes me a little strange but it wouldn't be the first time I've been called that.
