I found this at BestBatt.com
http://www.bestbatt.com …P_E4_Battery_p/bblpe4.htm (external link)

$38 seems like a pretty sweet deal compared to the $109 OEM price at B&H.
Any experience with this retailer?

I couldn't find any other deals under $99. Are they out there?

Hi curtis,
I wouldn't buy that if I were you! The 1D battery from canon last forever and compare to the prices here in Canada it is so much cheaper at BH!

One thing I've found with aftermarket batteries for the 1-series is that the latch mechanism and weathersealing is never as good as Canon's. So if that is an important feature to you, stick to the OEMs -- or if you have some dead OEMs (or buy them cheap on eBay) you can take the end cap off of the real thing and put it on the cheap replacement battery for a better fit.

Thanks, guys.

I don't think I'll ever kill a fully charged battery at a shoot. This is just for a backup, in case the OEM battery fails or I forget to charge it or something. Because of that, it's hard to justify the price of a second OEM battery I'll probably never need.

I noticed this aftermarket battery is 2800 mAh, compared to 2300 on the OEM.

The weather sealing is not an issue for me. I'm too much of a wimp to shoot in the rain, anyway.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger. $44.45 shipped. I'll report back here with a review of both the product and the vendor after I have a chance to use it.

I bought a Phottix Titan LP-E4 battery for my 1D, and it is very, very similar to the factory battery in performance and fit.

I ordered a spare battery from eBay for my 1D3, it arrived this week with an assembly fault. The little rotating locking lever had been inserted 180deg around so it wouldn't move into the recess. A few minutes with a screw driver fixed it but I wasn't happy with it being faulty in the first place.

Yup, I've had my fill with 3rd part batteries for my 1DS2. I won't order one again unless I have a dead Canon battery to take the end-caps from. My last purchase was a Lenmar and it is definitely second-rate. I take mine out in the rain and snow so the seal is important to me but I understand where it wouldn't matter for a studio camera.

I just bought a couple Lenmar's for for 1D3. One seems great and the other one quit charging after the 3rd charge. Nice 3 year warranty, but I have to pay return shipping to them AND $7.50 for them to send me a new one. Kind of sucks for a 4 month old battery that was about $65.

What do you guys think about this charger for the LP-E4?
Do 3rd party chargers do the same job with the same quality of the Canon OE unit or can they undercharge or overcharge your bat?

Wow, thanks so much. I bought a used lenmar for my 1D2N from BH and hated the connection but it holds charge really well. Luckily it was replacing a dead OEM so I just swapped end caps on the two and now the Lenmar fits great! Good call.

I know it's been a while since you posted, but I have firsthand experience with BestBattery.com. I ordered the LP-E4 battery and charger combo through eBay. I think it was about $56, which seemed like a great deal. It wasn't. The battery did not fit the camera very well at all. I had to force the weather seal tight to get it to latch. And then, it still didn't fit right. Also, the camera indicated it could not communicate with the battery, so no level information could be shown. I also got problems with high-speed drive and some other issues. The charger had something loose inside rattling around. It doesn't seem to charge the battery.

I know the OEM stuff is super-pricey, but I'm thinking it's well worth it.
