Tetrode started a thread about using the Interfit INT210 barndoor on the Elinchrom 8.25" grid reflector which caught my interest because I also wanted one for my 8.25" reflector. Unfortunately, B&H had it listed as "Accepting Orders" (wouldn't you know it, it's now listed as "In Stock" :| ) so I looked around for something else and found the Intefit 7" barndoor (RB4001) which I was hoping would fit my 7" reflector. I placed the order two days ago and it arrived today. I was expecting the worst, meaning I'd have to do a lot of modding to make it fit the Elinchrom 7" grid reflector. To my very pleasant surprise, the barndoor fit the reflector as-is, straight out of the box! :D

The RB4001 barndoor costs almost $10.00 more than the INT210 and doesn't come with any colored filters but I really like the build of this barndoor. As you can see in the pictures below, there are two metal tabs on one side of the barndoor that hold the reflector while a screw on the opposite side locks the barndoor to the reflector. Loosening the hold screw makes it very easy to rotate the barndoor to any position desired. It would have been nice if the screw had a plastic cap on the end to prevent scratching of the reflector surface but I'm sure a piece of electrical tape wrapped around the end would serve the same purpose.

A grid, of course, can be used with the reflector even with the barndoor in place, if desired, as can a color gel in a gel holder.

Sorry, but I can't answer that question because I don't have a Genesis 400 strobe but perhaps somebody else might be able to.

Very nice find, Leo. Judging by your photos, I'd say the RB4001 set is worth at least $10 more than the INT210. It looks to be much better built.

Also, kudos for setting a good example and showing a safety wire on your rig.

The Interfit 8.25" barndoors have plastic clips that hold it to the front of your reflector. If you leave your modeling light on for more than a few minutes it can soften these plastic clips sufficiently to cause them to spread and your barndoors can crash to the ground. You'll notice in PacAce's image - his smaller barndoor is using a metal clip to grab onto the reflector. Much more durable solution, whether you errantly leave the modeling lamp on or not.

I certainly noticed. Since I have a 7" reflector (and grids), I will be getting the RB4001 set.

The label on the box the barndoor came in has the word "Video" on it. That might explain why this barndoor is made a little more ruggedly, since video lights tend to be on for more than a couple of minutes at a time and do get pretty hot when left on a while. :)

Correct Leo. Look at the categorization of these doors. They don't show up if you just look for barn doors for strobe lighting.

The path to these doors at B&H is as follows:

Lighting & Studio » Continuous Lighting » Tungsten Lighting » Light Controls » Barndoors

They are clearly intended for hot lights.

Question from a studio noob? Is the safety wire used to keep the light from crashing to the floor in case there is a failure in the boom system ?

Sort of but it's more to keep the light from crashing to the floor or on top of somebody's head should one of screws (bolts) that hold the light to the spigots and the spigots to the boom fails or loosens. At a minimum, there are two such screws/bolts, one on the strobe head to attach the head to a spigot and another one on the boom arm to attach the spigot to the arm (on some boom arms, the spigot might be permanently attached, though).
