Sigma 18-50, Back to Adorama or Sigma?

After a bunch of chart tests, I'm fairly certain my 2 week old Sigma 18-50 Marcro is front focusing. Is there any point in trying to send it back to Adorama(where I purchased it) or should I just plan on sending the lens to Sigma in Long Island for calibration?

Thanks for your input.

Depends on whether you want to keep it or not. If you like it and want to keep it, send it to SIgma.

+1 Though its frustrating, most sigma lenses seem to preform well after some tweaking by sigma. ymmv of course, but my take on it has always been 'now that I own the thing, I want the damn thing to work'.

My 18-50 did the same thing and I had no patience again so I just returned it.

Thanks guys, as lame as it may seem, it may come down to turnaround time.

Sigma tells me a week or so. I'll call Adorama on Monday to see what their terms are. You make good points about letting Sigma tweak the existing copy, but I think that I'm so keyed in on the front focus issues that I'm not able to fully appreciate the other qualities of the lens. The build seems good, colors nice, decent focusing speed(albeit innacurate).:o Yet all of these good factors seem to be overriden in my obssevive brain.

Thanks again for the feedback.

if a lens doesn't focus the other factors are meaningless :D.

A quick update.

I called Adorama this past monday am and they sent me a ups shipping label within 5 minutes via email. Very smooth conversation with cust. service saying they would send me a new copy. I shipped the old 18-50 on Tuesday AM. I received a new 18-50 this afternoon(I live in boston but that's still fast)

The new copy is waayyy sharper. I'm very pleased so far with the lens and even more so with Adorama.

Good to hear their customer service is so good. Low prices always make me skeptical of that.

Just wondering...Sigma wouldn't do anything to the lens if the only problem was that it was reaaaally soft wide open, correct or not?

Edit: eeeek a spy! :D
