I grabbed a Manfrotto 679B mono-pod on my craigslist today (for just $15, and it's new, what a steal!!!) Now I need a tilt head.
This is my first mono-pod, and I haven't used a tripod... so I am clueless.

I was told before when I was looking into getting a mono-pod to go with a quick release tilt head.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a certain one I need to buy for a mono-pod?

Thanks for the help.

Just to tilt? Manfrotto's old part number was 3229; it's now called the 234RC and uses the widely available Manfrotto RC2 release plates. I use the 486RC2 ball head on mine since I may need to tilt the camera/lens and re-orient it into portrait orientation.

Get the 234RC and an extra plate.

Put one plate on the 70-200 foot oriented so the lens will tip up and down. Rotate the lens/camera in the collar to shift from landscape to portrait. Put the other on the camera oriented the other way and that will let you do the shift with smaller lenses by moving the camera.

Works for me,
Jim
