The last crop looks better to me. Great job focusing on the Hawk in that tangle of branches. Love the light filtering through the wings.

Thanks for the input Duane...it was a good one out of about 8 shots panning his flight through the branches.

How on earth do you keep focus with all those branches. I prefer the first crop with the tree framing it incidentally.

I used the center AF point...he was unexpected in the trees and I wasn't even using AF-Servo - just got lucky. :D

I much prefer #3, but I often crop too tightly. However, in this case, the less clutter, the better, IMHO. This is a great capture in very difficult conditions, well done. If it were mine, I would apply the blur tool to the background. Is this a juvenile Red-tailed Hawk?

Yes, I believe so. I think he was must have been attracted by the other one that was being handled during a Raptor conservatory photo-shoot taking place on the ground.

I think the branches are very distracting but 3 is the best crop in my opinion!"

My vote is almost always for more bird, less background, so another for #3.

Another one here for No.3, positioning of the bird looks better, with it flying towards an empty corner of the frame.

3 highlights the bird, in the other ones he gets lost in the clutter

Yeah, #3. When photographing things in motion it's a general rule to leave more space in the frame in the direction the subject is heading. It projects better feeling of motion.

Thanks for the advice guys...yeah I agree the image is indeed cluttered. Oh well, like I said it was an unexpected bonus and a purely "on the hip" type shot.
