Macro DSLR Speed Challenge #17
Get Creative with Candy

With this week's Macro DSLR Speed Challenge #17 is "Get Creative with Candy". Candy comes in all shapes, sizes and colors these days. Use those to your advantage to create a macro shot that shows your creativity and photographic skills in macro.

I'll be judging these based on creativity with the subject as well as overall composition and technical execution (lighting, focus, etc.) of the image.

And on the plus side, you can even eat the subject (I hope) when you're finished shooting! Just try not to eat too much beforehand to avoid the sugar rush.:)

I hope you have fun with this. Don't forget a title, and try to shoot something new if you can!

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR camera
2. Lens - Any lens, or attachment that can give Macro photos (ex. extension tubes, bellows, macro filters, reverse mounted lens and of course a true macro lens.).
3. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
4. Size - Please see the Image posting rules.
5. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
6. Posting -
* ONE MACRO PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.
* Photo Name/Title in the message.
* Camera model & lens used in the message.
* Post brief Exif data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used in the message.
* Notes - anything you feel you need to explain.
7. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
8. Questions - Use PM
9. Have FUN! :)

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:

* New Topic - After winner is declared.
* Posting Starts - Right after topic is announced.
* Posting Ends - 10:00 AM EST (Eastern) Sunday, March 15, 2009. Winner will be announced shortly thereafter.
* Winner from this competition decides the theme of the next one (and judges it for a winner) after this competition is closed.

Not too many entries this week, so I won't keep folks in suspense.

I'm giving this week's challenge to John_B and his Fruit Meltdown.
Second goes to BASmith and Candy Colors. My main comments on your shot were that your whites seemed a bit blown on the peppermint, and I found the lack of focus at the bottom a bit distracting to an otherwise nice and colorful photo.
Geno, Easter goodies/chickens aren't just a Canadian thing. I liked your idea of the pieces, but my eye kept getting drawn to the chunk of blue chocolate egg in the upper left, and it wasn't focused on the outer part of the shell. Maybe a different focus point would have made a stronger photo, at least to my eyes.

Thanks to you 3 for playing this week! You're up, John...

I debated between this topic and another one for the challenge. I guess I should've gone with the other one!

Why thanks guys and gals :)
Candy was hard for me too.. The candy used in the photo was over a year old and I would never eat it, but came in handy for the photo :) I can say I recycled it

Congrats to all participants :)

Hopefully there will be much more tries in the next macro challenge which I will get up in a few minutes :)
