Capture One versus Raw Developer

Dear fellow Photographers,

Has anyone used a new software called "Raw Developer" from a company called Iridient Digital? It is for Mac platform only.

I have been using Capture One for quite a while on the PC platform but finding that since I changed to the Mac the equivalent is not quite up to par for the C1.

I did a demo download of tRaw Developer and have found the speed and image quality/functionality to be impressive.

It is based on DCRAW open source and costs only $69 compared to the $99 for the C1 LE version.

I've not heard a thing about "Raw Developer"

Also look into "Rawshooter" by Pixmantec... it's free and it has replaced C1 for me

Thanks for bringing my attention to RawShooter.

Does this work on the Mac platform. I am one of those converts

BTW what have you found better about this product that made you change from C1.

Everywhere I have read I had seen C1 being mentioned as the 'king' of raw converters!

I'd be interested in your thoughts on RSE, CDS. I have been using C1 and have tried RSE recently and am having a hard time finding much difference in the images. What's the biggest selling point for you on RSE.

How do you find RSE when dealing with skin tones/people shots ??
I'm in love with it for inanimate objects or my landscape efforts but my two blonde kids end up with green tinged hair in particular. No amount of colour adjustment in RSE or CS can sort it out.

I've been trying RSE a little bit lately as well. One thing I've noticed (this might be user error of course) is the slight desturation of images while displayed in RSE. With the same saturation levels in C1Pro and RSE (none) the RAW files in RSE look kind of bad. (I'm looking at the images on the same, calibrated monitor)
C1:

I like the interface better,. I just find it more user freindly.
I also find the exposure recovery to be simply unreal,. whether it is blown highlights or far too dark and image it seems to excel at saving these images. I allways loved C1 images,. so that was less of a factor to me.

I don't shoot people enough to have a good opinion on that,. I shoot birds and stuff mostly

I've been quite happy with RSE. The only complaint I have is that occasionally an image seems to not generate properly, and half of it comes up in weird colours. No matter what I do, it never seems to be able to regenerate the file correctly. I can open the same file in other converters and its fine.

I use PS CS because i'm used to it, and it gives me more control in general. I use RSE when the foreground's bright but the background's dark, the RSE fill-light it a fantastic tool!
