I've never been to a single Zoo here as an adult and now I've been to two different ones in two weeks.

Here's a few of my favorites from this trip. All of these were taken with my Canon 40D and my 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS

5. I love this but it was shot at ISO 1600 hand held in low light so its a little soft

Nice photos. You should check out the Southwick Zoo in Mendon, MA which I happen to like a little bit more then the Franklin Park Zoo. It is especially nice for kids because they have a 35 acre "Deer Forest" were kids (and adults ;) ) can feed deer. That makes for some nice photo ops :)

Thanks John - I am planning on going there as soon as they open for the Season.

It seems like I am going from the smaller to the larger ones. The Stone is something like 26 Acres, Franklin is 70+ and Southwick is over 300. I can't imagine how long it will take us to get through and how many pictures I will take. We were at Franklin for 4+ Hours and I took 410 Pics :-)

Can't wait though!

Great shots. I went to the zoo too on Friday. First time I really got to put my 70-300 IS to good use!

I have a 70-200 f/2.8L IS and I've never even put it on my camera when I am at a Zoo. I might try it with my 1.4TC next time. It is such a heavy / bulky lens compared to my 70-300 is is my preferred lens for sure.

I had the 70-200 F/4L NON-IS and regretted getting the lens without IS from day one! I am just getting too old for a non-IS lens..lol. I read all the reviews on this lens and everyone stated how this lens had L glass in it and seeing the results I can believe that one! I still do not like the zoom and how the lens "grows", it just feels a little cheap. Considering the cost and results it produces I think I can live with it though :D.

I couldn't agree more, I got my 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS used off of Craig's List last Summer and I have to say I am thrilled with the results as well. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with it.

Don't get me wrong the 70-200's certainly have their place, I love mine as a portrait lens but honestly don't do many portraits or low light situations. I've considered selling it but haven't been able to part with it just yet.

I also agree 110% that IS is AWESOME!!! My first IS lens was my 24-105 and when I saw the results from that I was hooked. I knew it would make a huge difference on longer lenses as well. I think it is well worth the extra money, too bad Canon doesn't offer it on more lenses.

Yes! I wish they offered it on a macro lens! Handshake can be a real problem in macro shooting and the use of anything even a monopod (in nature) is unrealistic!
