Lonnie, sounds like a nice way to spend the day, regardless of the floranesses!

today I took Kona for a walk...it was a nice path along the river and people are supposed to keep their dogs on a leash. I came around a corner and was suddenly accosted by two dogs. One doberman and one (at least half ridgeback). The pinned Kona btw. my legs...the doberman was in front of me barking and the ridgeback was behind me growling (ridge up). Their "owner" was further down the trail talking to a bicyclist. Completely ignoring her dogs menacing us. Finally I yelled "HEY are these your dogs. You need to contain them.." and she whistled...the doberman returned to her and SHE CONTINUED HER CONVERSATION completely ignoring the ridgeback.

I was so mad. I forgot to be afraid. I was so angry I didn't say anything because I know I would have completely lost my temper. Finally I made myself as big as possible and moved toward the ridgeback saying "get away" and it retreated to her.

I've decided to carry mace in future though. I had no idea what those dogs would do to me or Kona. And the owners behavior was absolutely unacceptable.

She knew I was upset as I continued my walk past her (she was still talking to the cyclist). She just looked at me very rude like "yeah, my dogs could do the very thing you expected". It was the rudest animal/owner encounter I've ever had...

I did learn though that I can be pushed past fear to absolute fury.

sigh. thanks for listening.

I hate irresponsible owners, especially if it is not off leash. They are the ones who make it tougher on the responsible ones.

misspix wrote in post #7583214 (external link)
And without that encounter you may not have learned that about yourself for a very long time. In all things, a reason ;)

Well done, my friend, well done.

I like the way you think, Dragon Lady. :D

how do you do that??

I am assuming that RoF can only be enabled in a 5D right?

"Ring of Fire's" mainly talked about with the 1-series and all those secondary AF points. It's pretty much the same in any of the others though - set all AF points active and AI-Servo mode. Pick up the subject with the center AF point and if it drifts out, the active point will move with it. Not a really impressive feature on the D30 or D60, but by the time you get to the 20D it's getting useful.

I can think of worse ways to spend a day! I've seen some very impressive photos from years past in the poppy reserve, so I hope things start to look like that soon.

In the meantime, I think I'll be returning to the Desert Woodland park often. That one is free and dogs are welcome. The poppy reserve is $7/day and dogs are very unwelcome. I'm gonna wait until I hear the poppies are at their peak, go there once and take a million pictures, then never go back again...

Nice SP rant Lonnie! I'll bet it was nice to get out!

As rough as it will be, you'll have to go out there again when there are more flowers. I'm sorry.;)

Diane, I'm in love with that cribbage board!!

I can never find a cool cribbage board around here, ours is this cheap thing... and we play 4-5 times a week! Maybe I'll look online for one...

The 1 series cameras have it as well.

Jon part of why I wanted a 5D was so I was FF in both cameras so I could have continuous lens range. It drove me crazy with a crop body and full frame.

Yours is the 1Ds2? For some reason I thought you had the 1D2 . . . I think my timing was pretty well in there (for a change)- just the odd missed focus which RoF should have helped with.

Yeah 1DsMkII. You did good with the timing. I get better catches with a faster FPS than I do with the FF cameras I have.
