Probably. Mine has a lot of front focus, but from the shots I took it is clear it is a very sharp lens (the parts that arein focus, which sadly aren't where I was focusing, look awesome) with wonderful contrast and color saturation. I don't have the 24L, but my picture quality looks very comparable. I guess the question to ask is, is it worth a thousand dollars to you to send your lens and body in for calibration? Where I live (in Taiwan) the camera shops take care of it for you, so it is very easy and only takes 3 to 5 days to get back.
Admittedly, the AF is slow and noisy, but for what I shoot that won't bother me much.

I wonder if the 28 has the same issues. I would prefer a 24 though. Both lenses are tough to find used.

Got mine back from Sigma today. The AF accuracy now seems very good. The actual AF motor and "locking in" are comically poor. If I had to compare the two, I would give the nifty-fifty the nod. General sharpness, though, is wonderful. I'll do some real shooting when the family gets home later, but I am very happy overall.

Hey, thanks! I think I'm going to have fun with this bad boy, although I need to play with it a lot more and get a better feel for what it can do. I'm really glad it's so nice and sharp.

Bump for some more feedback on my questions.

What was the question? is it whether the 28 has the same focus issues?

Who knows - it's Sigma.....
