Pretty cool...A couple of comments.

1) The castle is just a little under-exposed. (perhaps its back-lit from the sun). We could use a fill flash to even it out, or we could try to get an angle that accentuated the shadows (making them the focus of the picture. Perhaps a low sun at sunset or something.

2) Its a little off-center. (If off-center was the intent, then it is not off center enough :-)

3) It would have been cool to have a sand ramp that lead right up to the lense of the camera.

4) Some kind of splash of color would have been neat too. (shovel, or bucket. Perhaps a little flag in the castle).

5) I jealous that I'm not at the beach :-)

Geir:
I looked at your photo in Photoshop and the input levels on the histogram range from 23 to 233, compared to a full density image of 0 to 255. Hence the image range is quite compressed compared to a full scale image. I think this explains why the photo looks "dull."
Auto levels livens it up quite considerably, even though much more could be done with the levels and curves if you chose.
Regarding composition, the angle of the castle up to the right is a little disconcerting, and there is a little too much foreground. Perhaps a composition with the castle at an angle to the side might get the entire castle in with better foreground proportions. More clouds in the sky would make this a much more interesting image also.
Finally, while an interesting image, I wonder what is its purpose? Is it a record of a day spent at the beach? Is it an interesting architectural image? Is it evocative of times spent at the beach in general? Is it a colorful or spatially interesting composition to be viewed as pure art?

Thanks for sharing this image!

cheers

It does sort of have the "in your face" effect.

Hmm..

How about stitching two pictures together left to right and get a compressed image with closeup of sandcastle on left, with beach rolling out to the right. Get something like a 3 to 1 aspect ratio, so its wide and short (so to speak.

I like the playing with perspective (I do a lot of that myself).
