Here's some pictures from sectional play this weekend. The school I was shooting (New Palestine) was a huge underdog and won the sectional. This was a good workout for the 50D I had just received only 1/2 hour before I had to leave for the first round of games on Friday night.

Yep, I'll be at Shelbyville for the 10 am game. I graduated from Shelbyville back in 1981 and used to shoot a LOT of basketball games there for the yearbook. Yep, that was in the old film days....Minolta SRT-201, 50mm f/1.4 and lots of Tri-X pushed to ASA-1600 (yes ASA!). God, I'm showing my age now! It'll be great to get back there to shoot some more.

Oh man, just saw your gear list.....I sure hope you don't make me spend more money! Already spent enough the last 2 weeks! (50D, 70-200 2.8 IS, 17-55 2.8). Looking forward to meeting you on Saturday.

North Montgomery class of '85 and the same exact setup. That is too funny.

Do you by any chance have a wide angle image of the Shelbyville gym? I am curious about options for strobes but have not had any luck finding an image to check things out.

I have a 135 f/2 and an 85 f/1.8 that would probably get your checkbook heated up. I love the 135 and it is my hands down favorite low light indoor sports lens.

Unfortunately, I don't have any good images of the gym. It's been a while since I've been in there so I really can't recall how it would do for strobes. Best bet is to arrive early and scope it out.

I have the 85 f/1.8 and really like using it for basketball and swimming. My only complaint is that it's a bit tight around the basket; I've been having trouble getting good action shots underneath that include the basket. I tried out the 17-55 this last weekend on the 50D since I had ISO 3200 available to me. f/2.8 was pretty slow on my 450D at ISO 1600 for the lighting conditions at the time, so I prefer the 85 at f/2.0 on the 450D.

Have you tried your 50 f/1.8? It would give you a bit more room but am not familiar enough with it to know how the AF performs. Three days to the big game. See you soon.

Nope, haven't tried it yet. I've steered clear since the autofocus is sooooo slow, but I may give it a shot on Saturday just for kicks. I'm hoping the light is good so I can use the 17-55. I'm planning on being there about an hour before the game to check out the lighting and get set up. Looking forward to meeting you and maybe learning a thing or two. BTW, the name here is Scott.

Will do....although I have a feeling this may be my last game. If you go by the records, North Montgomery (17-5) may put it to New Pal (9-13) pretty good.....although you never know!

North Montgomery is pretty good but a lot of it rides on #33, All State and Mr. Basketball candidate DJ Byrd. When he is on he is almost unstoppable. He is off to Purdue on a full ride next year. He tore cartilage in his knee about two weeks ago so is still healing so his play will be the key. After him, they don't have a lot of significant weapons.

Scott, I look forward to meeting you as well. I plan to get there by 8:30 if possible but spend most of my life being 15 minutes behind schedule.

I'm a big guy with glasses and a goatee and my name is Kevin. See you Saturday.
