All other lenses auto focus just fine. It's as though the AF/MF switch doesn't work. Any ideas about self-fixing it, or is it worth it to send it back to canon. Any suggestions welcome.

Your best bet is probably to send it off to Canon....although I seem to remember of hearing about someone doing a "self repair" from somewhere....but that doesn't help you
