Has anyone out there tried the 3rd part tripod mount rings out there such as this one: here![]()
Looking for something for a 70-200 f4 IS but the canon ones are about $120 and these ones are only $20.
Any reports?

It is VERY good, but it has only one disadvantage. The lens can move even with the screw at the limit. Though, it is very little movement and can be avoided by putting an ordinary piece of paper between the lens and the ring. I was looking at the same one and wanted to make sure I didn't drop my body/L lens off the tripod. It is sturdy and doesn't let the lens slip. The only problem I have ever had with it is that the black part that grips the lens sometimes leaves a little residue on the lens, but it comes off pretty easily. Overall it was a great buy and an excellent way to save $100. The Kirk thing sounds interesting but i'm going to bet the price is more than the the canon one and kirk plate combined. Most people seem to charge a premium for convenience. Surprised nobody has done that already though, especially Really Right Stuff.
