Just got back from 5 days in Istanbul - here's the best of the first 20 or so shots with another couple of hundred to look at still: hey, what are weekends for!?

Anyway, not ideal conditions. Spend the whole time walking the streets but was always dodging the rain, while indoor lighting was universally awful pretty much everywhere - dim, low energy light-bulbs or flood-lights, or both!! Some great places to see tho' and a real change of scene, but also lots of hassle and some very dodgy cab drivers!

Mainly used a mix of the D300 with 16-85mm VR and D700 with Zeiss 25mm, but took a few with the 70-300mm VR and Zeiss 50mm 2.0.

Interesting shots. You clearly got to some places I didn't find during my visit there.

Thanks, I'm liking the B&W shots there. I have some fishermen shots but need to PP them still. I found Turkish people mainly very respectful and helpful. It's a great city to photograph. Shame we didn't meet up - I'd have bought you a very over-priced espresso:-)

I got cheated for sure by one taxi guy - cost me under 7 TLR to go from one place to another, but with another taxi on the way back cost me 22!! I was in the back second time so couldn't see what he was doing to the meter. I think he kept adding extra charges by hand. At the end what could I say as the meter showed the fare!! And the central locking was on so couldn't get out. I've travelled a lot and rare I get scammed - so I was  afterwards! Secret seems to be sit in the front and watch them and know the route too, or they take you on a long detour. On my last day other taxi guys where telling me 'special price' 30-40 EURO to the airport but I found a guy who used the meter and it was actually 36 TLR, so less than half the price! 'Special price' for them when they can scam a tourist :lol:

i apology for that by name of the cheater cab people :( some of the people from cab drivers are scammers.. they do that for own people too.. but this is not special for turkish drivers, because i saw that in thailand, bangkok too :) i think cab drivers are thief in all around the world :D if they see any foreign people, they try to rob them..

Excellent imagery...

I'm loath to even suggest anything but as good as the portrait of The Gentleman and his Kittens is, I think if you pulled the sides in a bit (lose the black and purple at camera right and just to the end of the one plant branch at camera left) it would be stronger.
