Face capture: G9 vs 40D

I go to a lot of tourist areas and get great shots when I stand still, use the viewfinder, and POINT and shoot with my G9. I've tried hip shooting so I don't freak people out when I go for a face--but 1 micrometer off, and I get feet and
sky. If I had a 40D with what they tell me can get a really wide angle shot (allowing me to get a face without someone thinking I'm targetting them), would
this help solve my problem?

Any repies will be greatly appreciated.

Jg

The G9 at it's widest angle has a an angle of view roughly equivalent to 35mm. The standard 40D kit that comes with the 28-135mm lens, at it's widest angle has an angle of view roughly equivalent to 45mm. (Between those two, the G9 is wider!) If you got a 40D, you would need to get a lens that includes a focal length less than 22mm to get a wider view than you are getting with your G9.

Well the wider the lens, the CLOSER you'll have to be to have a person's "head/body/whatever the subject is" fill the frame....Or are you talking about just pointing the camera "nowhere" and having a wide enough field-of-view that the subject will appear SOMEWHERE in the frame?

Oh, saw the "Hip shooting" line, with a 40D, you can get something like the Sigma 10-20mm lens which is W-I-D-E (and an awesome lens!), or something like the 17-85 which doesn't start out nearly as wide but has a longer range and IS. Either option would be MUCH wider than the G9.
