Yep, it's a rare Non-crested Tripod Cardinal.

I thought about cloning out the stick, but I generally don't like to do that sort of thing. I was wishing that I had a longer lens mounted on the camera when the cardinal landed about ten feet from me.

Nice one. I can't imagine birding with a 100mm. I feel under gunned if I go out with anything less than my 500.

Thanks. It wasn't intentional -- I just happened to have the macro lens on the camera when Mr. Cardinal dropped in to see what I was doing. While it is a sharp lens, it sure doesn't have enough reach to do any real birding, unless they are tame.

:D The "blind" was a couple lawn chairs on my Dad's front porch. We were just sitting there enjoying the warm weather and talking. I suppose that curiosity got the best of the cardinal -- maybe he was wondering why I didn't have my L glass on the camera.

Yeah, but the sharpness of the 100 is hard to beat... Tradeoffs everywhere!

Yep! If there is a sharper lens around, I would need Kevlar gloves to handle it.

Thanks. I love them too. They are abundant in the area where my parents live so finding them is no challenge at all.

Thanks, Sharon. The sparrows were hogging the feed trough.
