Hi guys... again
Lately it was pretty busy, with 7 or 8 races in last 20 days and more then 2000km in car in between races, so these photos are history already. But nevertheless I still managed to get few days of skiing on my own
And another good thing is, that last weekend was my last weekend in 2008/09 season shotting alpine skiing. I'm skipping World cup finals in Are, Sweden this week, so we had farewell party with most of us who are lucky enough not to be in Sweden this week. Few photographers with some beer on one day, and few servicemen, coaches and races the other day, so it was pretty cool end of season.... even if it was snowing like hell all 3 days we have spent in Ofterschwang, Germany. But more about this in next post or two, which will definitely be last ones about alpine skiing for this season... I promise
But now to photos and all races till here
One of places that are traditionally on men's World cup calendar is night race in Schladming, Austria. As it tradition already, weather is really sh**ty, but this doesn't prevent more then 50.000 spectators to show on hill. This year we were lucky, and it was "just" snowing pretty bad. Last year it was raining badly, and hour before race rain turned into snow. So this year, I can't complain too much

After Tuesday afternoon/night in Schladming, I popped home for day, and already on Thursday morning, I was on my way to Garmisch, Germany. Garmisch was quite cool, except that I manage to sprain my ankle, and after more then one month, I still feel this when I put skiing boots on. We spent whole day on mountain on Saturday just waiting for races to start, but after about 6 hours on mountain, at sub 0 temperatures, both races were finally canceled. So Sunday's program all of a sudden changed to pretty busy one. Men slalom race on one location, then 30mins after start there was start of women Super-G race on another location about 10km away, and before women race was over, second run of men slalom race started already. We were lucky to be two of us there, so I was covering women SG, while colleague was covering men's slalom. Next to that I managed to catch last 15 men in second run, so everything turned out pretty cool.

After Garmisch, there was little break for me, since I didn't go to Val d'Isere for World Championships. I didn't mind too much because of this... 2 weeks at home is afterall 2 weeks at home
And next to that, I'm 99% sure, I will be on next one in 2 years in Garmisch. So after break, there was another speed weekend in Tarvisio, Italy. Super combined race, downhill and super-g races were held in 3 days, and once for a change weather was really perfect. Sunny and warm, so I was actually standing up on hill in t-shirt only
Only problem was course. It's really nice course for skiing, but there's absolutely no decent position for photographers. I was doing blind jumps for two days, and I hate doing it this way. On Friday's super combined downhill, I was counting seconds after I heard skier landing on jump above me, and when I counted till 3, I pressed shutter and let it go for 5 or 6 frames, out of which 2 were good ones, and others were to delete
But photos were pretty nice.Anna Fenninger of Austria skiing in downhill part of Women Super combined race of Tarvisio Audi FIS Ski World Cup 2008-09.

Fabienne Suter of Switzerland skiing in Women Downhill race of Tarvisio Audi FIS Ski World Cup 2008-09.
For last day, I moved to third position, and once for a change I didn't have blind jump to shoot. Even though nicest photos for me of that day, were actually blind shots again.
But I run out of space, so more will follow in another thread

And as always... any kind of comments are more then welcome

Take care,
primoz

Nice pics BTW.

And winter will end for me with about 10 days of skiing in Levi, Finland, on end of April
