I'm going to Mexico this weekend, Mayan Riviera area. My question is about electrical outlets. Most places I have read seem to imply that things are similar down there as far as voltages, only real issue is the outlet socket accepting polarized or grounded plugs.

I'm going to be in a time-share type place so I'm hoping that I will be able to charge my camera batteries like normal with no worry?

Anyone have experience with this in the greater Cancun area?

Thanks!

I was in Playa del Carmen several years ago, and had no problems at all. I don't think it will be a problem for you. Particularly if you're staying in a relatively modern spot.

Yep, same as IBDB above - I had no problems in Cabo San Lucas last year recharging. DO BE wary of theft down there, and carry only as much gear as you are willing to lose.

I was in Playa del Carmen in June of last year and we had no issues at all with plugins. Everything worked just fine. It's very Americanized.

Yup, me too. I was in Playa Del Carmen last year and had no problem with either my camera or my Macbook.

What ever you do, do NOT take out your camera in public! j/k, just adding to the paranoia of going into Mexico.

Have fun!

I was at Barcelo Palace on the MR last year and they have USA style outlets. No problems whatsoever.

If you hire a bodyguard while you're there, you have little to worry about while traveling with expensive equipment.

Depending on how much a bodyguard makes . . . I might be for hire :)
