Sure, NOW you tell me. I just spent an afternoon taking a self-portrait, and it wouldve been SO much cooler with the strobella. :D

That said, I've a got big budget wedding in Key West to shoot (I know, I know...I'm not a wedding shooter). What do you think they'd say when I show up with that?

Get back in your car and leave :lol:

Did you want it next?

I think you're talking about the Speed, Rob. What about the Eco? Can the Eco fire by group/all as well? Or is it 4 channels only and fires all (not by group)?

I was thinking of getting another transmitter for a light meter.

Well right off the bat we can tell something is lesser about it since it only has two dip switches whereas other skyports have three:

IMAGE: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21yU-ef4enL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

This is from NormanCamera.com(same from Elinchrom.com) referencing the specs of the ECO:

* SLR Camera Sync speeds: SPEED mode up to 1/250 s, STANDARD mode 1/160 - 1/200 s.
* 4 frequency channels.
* 40 Bit security encryption.
* Up to 50 m range indoors for standard mode and up to 30 m in speed mode.
* Up to 80 m range outdoors for standard mode and up to 40 m in speed mode.
* Battery life up to 6 Months - over 30’000 flashes.
* Test trigger button and feature button.
* Integrated Hot-shoe (middle contact).
* Two flash modes, standard and speed.
* Standard mode full compatible with previous EL-Skyport versions.
* Status LED for EL-Skyport mode and battery status.
* New extra features; configure EL-Skyport with the new EL-Skyport PC / MAC software 3.0.
* The SPEED function is available for Ranger Quadra AS, BXRi 250 / 500 and D-Lite it and all other units, when used with the EL-Skyport Universal Speed.

All that versus the TX Speed (from Elinchrom.com):

EL-Skyport SPEED Facts

Looks like it. Oh well, it looks like I'll have to get the Speed and use my old transmitter to use on the light meter.

I still don;t get it... What is the whole fuss about the new Speed Transmitter.. Says 250th using the Speed Setting... according to manual the old transmitter was good up to 1/1000th.. Am I missing something? On the other hand I can shoot at 1/250th connecting a sync cable from my D700 to a 300RX strobe but the max I can get using the Skyport is 1/200th so maybe the new Speed transmitter gives me the extra 1/50th ???

I can get a clean 1/200 on my 5D2 using the Speed transmitter, and a very very usable (the tiniest, slightest black border) 1/250.
But to be honest, I would get the new transmitter for the build quality alone. Makes the old one seem like a cheap knock-off.

! ;)

Build is definetly way superior! I used to get 1/200th clean with my 5D2 with the old transmitter though and a bit vignetting at 1/250. I might just upgrade for build alone, however does the Speed has control for Strobe power on RXs?? The photo does not seem to show that.

Disregard my previous message... just saw the picture on the Elinchrom site and the one included in this Thread is the Universal version, not the RX one... Ok, so it seems I might upgrade after all :)

Just be aware that you can't use Speed mode with the RX-Series Skyport plug-in modules. They're not updated (yet). Only Universal and built-in ones are Speed-capable.

Question for my Elinchrom-using compadres: Is the Pelican 1550 case the right size to carry a pair of BXRis? Using a measuring tape on the lights and looking at the internal dimensions of the case I think it's right but want to make sure.

Thanks in advance.

Answering my own question in case anybody else needs the info: the 1550 is about perfect for holding a pair of 500s though there is no room for anything else unless you get the organizer that fits in the lid section. I might have been able to fit them more tightly together and then have a small slot down one side that could hold the power cords but it would have been a tight fit. I'll just leave the cords in the duffle with everything else, it's not like they need protection.

I don't have a camera with me right now but I'll post a pic when I get home this evening.
