son of a **** that would be great no getting caught up in customs

Well, there is still risk for Aman in terms of customs holding it up as well as damage in shipping. But if he ships me a box, let's say, full of softboxes and we do a consignment deal, I have no problem distributing anywhere in the US to any of you guys. Even if it's a box full of beauty dishes. My house is a minute away from a post office and my apartment is two minutes away from the main post office. Lol.

I dont think a 1/3rd of a stop on the shutter would be worth it

Depends if you need it or not, really.

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

Pentax MF film stuff was quite popular. Interesting how the 645D only takes SD card though....

Hey Frank,

I tried one and liked it very much. I had asked a few times if anyone had tried the strip masks available for it but never got a single response. I don't know how much control the 6" mask offers but I didn't end up buying the strip because of the lack of a grid and also I felt that a 20" width was too wide for a strip.

As a 20" x 51" softbox it's quite usable for many applications but I don't really need a narrow softbox as much as I need a controllable strip box.

I would love to see a 14" strip with a grid from Elinchrom.

Thank you Robert. I know we have talked about the strips in the past... still in the market. I was curious about the masks as well. Looking over the brands now... Chimera has a nice 14x56 but as we talked about... you get what you pay for and they are not cheap. Good to know the 20" is a little wide as well.

You rock!
Thanks again,
Hatch

It always goes back to Chimera. I'm still not ready to replace my strips yet but every time I look at what's out there I find myself looking at the Chimera strips.

I own and use Photoflex boxes and I'm sure the silver interior strips from Photoflex are excellent, not to mention they have grids of good quality and reasonable prices.

In close comparison I'm not sure there would necessarily be a difference in the light but there's definitely a difference in build quality and materials.

You do pay a premium for the Chimera grids and that's something that I think keeps many from going in that direction. It's quite an investment to get any Chimera box or strip with a grid, knowing you can get the same size and configuration from Photoflex for half the price.

Actually the Pentax is getting some great reviews. Compatible with the old lenses which are cheap and well made. There is currently no warranty support in the USA, but that's not stopping a handful of folks from getting it.

Internal software support is lacking, but it does just fine in C1 and Lightroom from what i hear. Quite frankly for the same price you can pick up what i got and go into the whole Hasselblad system. Sure the lenses are more expensive, but they are designed for higher resolving power from the get go.

Pentax has introduced two lenses which are designed for MF Digital, but they aren't cheap either. FP shutter and 14bit eliminated it from my choice though.

Good discusssion here:

Yeah, but check out the used prices on ebay. You can get a halfway decent MF kit for about the price of a new 1ds MkIII.
